Viagra is a medicine prescribed to treat Erectile Dysfunction. It is introduced in 1998. It is a blue coloured pill. It is small in size. It is available in small dosages starting from 25mg to 100mg. It blocks a chemical that causes blood to leave the penis. More blood in the penis means an improved erection. A man who is sexually stimulated gets erected when he uses this Viagra. Viagra increases blood flow to the penis. This makes the penis to become harder and stay that way for a long time. The way Viagra how it works is it inhibits an enzyme named Phosphodiesterase-5 which supplies blood to penis.

Viagra works by inhibiting PDE5 thus blocks the breakdown of cGMP. This causes the levels of cGMP to increase and an erection is prolonged. Nitric oxide (NO) produced by NANC (non adrenergic -non cholinergic) nerve cells. Under some conditions the brain sends a signal down the axon of a NANC nerve cell located in penis. This causes NO to be released in the arteries of the penis. One of the main roles of the NO is to trigger the relaxation of the smooth muscle that lines the arteries. This leads to vasodilation and the lowering of blood pressure. In the penis this causes engorgement as the arteries expand and fill up with blood. The result is an erection that is stimulated by NO.
